A FISH trader at Billingsgate has been fined after public health inspectors found his freezer turned off.
The trader, Aloysius Lobo, admitted storing fish outside temperature control.
His company, Lacelin Ltd, was fined £4,515 with costs at Thames Magistrates' court after being prosecuted by Tower Hamlets Council's Environmental Health department.
He pleaded guilty to breaching regulations requiring frozen fish to be kept at minus 18 degrees Celcius to prevent bacterial growth and spoilage of the fish.
But he disputed in mitigation selling the fish to a member of the public.
All the fish on his stands were for display purposes only, he told magistrates, and would be disposed off at the end of each week.
