THE family of a cyclist killed in a collision with a lorry last week have launched a petition campaigning for better safety measures at the junction where she died.
"Beautiful and bubbly" Chrystelle Brown, 26, a keen cyclist from Hackney, died after she was involved in a crash with a lorry at the junction of Vallance Road and Whitechapel Road at 6.25am last Wednesday morning.
Cousin Kat Hawes said: "We want to ensure that she did not die in vain and are campaigning for the redesign of this junction to prevent further tragic deaths.
"It is renowned throughout the cyclist community as being dangerous, particularly when travelling south down Vallance Road.
"We would like to do everything we can to prevent other families from experiencing a similar tragic loss."
Kat and sister Jen have set up a petition campaigning for the junction's layout to be changed to make it safer for cyclists.
She said: "The accident has devastated our family. No one can believe such a beautiful person, so full of life and fun is no longer with us.
"What we need is hard facts and statistics so we can do all we can to change this junction and let no other family go through the nightmare of losing someone in such a horrific way."
The family is asking for information on previous campaigns to change notorious accident hotspots to help with the campaign.
