A Tube station and part of a line have been closed while police investigate a suspicious package.

Transport for London said Jubilee Line trains are currently “being held” and that there is no service between Canary Wharf and Stratford.

North Greenwich station has been closed and severe delays are expected across the whole line.

British Transport Police (BTP) were called at 11am to North Greenwich station after the suspicious item was discovered.

Travellers are advised to avoid the area while specialist officers examine the object.

North Greenwich station, which was evacuated, remains closed while the Met and British Transport Police – who have already carried out a controlled demolition on the object – investigate.

The Met’s Counter Terrorism Command is leading the probe because it has the “expertise to deal with incidents of this kind”, police said, but they are keeping an “open mind”.

Members of the public are warned to remain vigilant and alert at all times and report anything suspicious to police.
