Commuters are bracing themselves for travel chaos on the second morning of the 48-hour Tube strike.
Members of the RMT and TSSA unions have walked out in protest at the closure of ticket offices.
Conciliation service Acas announced last night that talks have been scheduled for tomorrow in an attempt to stop next week’s strike going ahead, although this will do little to halt the misery faced by commuters today.
Yesterday, long queues grew outside Stepney Green, Whitechapel and Aldgate East stations, on the District and Hammersmith and City lines, as well as Mile End also served by the Central.
Commuters choosing to travel by bus also faced an uncomfortable journey, with passengers crammed in on routes serving Mile End Road, Whitechapel Road, Bethnal Green Road, Roman Road and Cambridge Heath Road.
Statistics released by Transport for London last night showed almost 90 per cent of Oyster card users braved the Underground yesterday.
