VIEWERS in East London are among worst in town for dodging their TV licenses... and it's not the first time.
Households in the 2012 Olympic borough of Newham have come top of the licence-dodgers' League of Shame for London for the second year running, according to figures released by TV Licensing.
The figures show well over 2,100 'dodger' families caught in the first six months of the year watching TV without a licence in districts like Stratford, West Ham, Canning Town, Silvertown, Beckton, East Ham and Plaistow.
Their neighbours in Tower Hamlets were more smug, with fewer than 900 getting that knock on the door.
The families in Poplar, Isle of Dogs, Stepney, Whitechapel, Bethnal Green and Bow ranked only 13th out of 33 London boroughs for license dodging.
Hackney was slightly more honest, 19th on the list, with 749 households caught out in Shoreditch, Hoxton, Dalston, Stoke Newington, Clapton and Hackney Wick.
TV Licensing's database of more than 29 million addresses throughout Britain means they see 'at the touch of a button' which properties are unlicensed.
They also turn up in streets using sophisticated hand-held detection equipment.
The risk of 'telly dodging' is prosecution and a fine up to £1,000.
