Leyton Orient midfielder Sammy Moore was pleased to help his side put a poor September behind them by earning all three points against Notts County last weekend.

The 28-year-old scored his first goal for the Brisbane Road outfit in the first half against the Magpies, before adding another late on from 30 yards to seal a 3-1 triumph.

It was the O’s first victory since beating Bristol Rovers on August 29 and ensured they began October in fine form.

They suffered a frustrating September and ended it poorly as well by losing 2-1 to Carlisle United at Brisbane Road last Tuesday night.

And the following day it was confirmed that Paul McCallum would miss at least six months with cruciate ligament damage suffered in the recent draw at Northampton Town.

But October began with Ian Hendon bringing in Brighton defender Adam Chicksen on loan and continued to go well as Moore’s brace earned a win over County.

“We had a disappointing September, we didn’t get one win and we knew that we needed to start this month with three points,” said Orient’s two-goal hero from Saturday.

“We have done that and we had a good chat on Friday about how Notts County would play so we are delighted it has paid off and we got the victory.”

Moore’s double against the Magpies was sandwiched by a crucial Jay Simpson goal in the 80th minute.

That put Orient 2-1 up after Jon Stead had cancelled out Moore’s opener by scoring less than 30 seconds into the second period at Brisbane Road.

Hendon then watched his midfielder let fly from way outside the area and find the top corner, much to the delight of Orient’s supporters.

It was the first time Moore had scored twice in one match in the Football League and he isn’t finished there.

He added: “Last year when I was at AFC Wimbledon I played a little bit deeper than I am for Orient this season.

“I have played under the assistant here – Andy Hessenthaler – before at Dover Athletic so he knows I have got goals in me and if I get more chances I will be having more shots like the second one.

“Hopefully I can get eight to 10 goals this season, that is my target, but I am just delighted with the three points.”

Orient will now turn their focus to next weekend when they travel to face Crawley Town at Broadfield Stadium.

Moore injured his knee on Saturday before scoring his second goal, but confirmed afterwards it wasn’t anything too serious and shouldn’t be enough to rule him out of facing the Reds.

Captain Mathieu Baudry also received a nasty blow to the forehead and although he will be fit, he will most likely be wearing a Petr Cech-style head protector for the Crawley fixture this weekend.

Orient supporters should can expect to see a new forward by the time Hendon’s side have made the trip to Broadfield Stadium, he added: “I want someone that has been around it and played at this level or above. I’m hopeful of completing that before the Crawley match.”
