Two Tower Hamlets GP surgeries get green light by CQC inspectors

Two GP surgeries in the borough have passed their ‘medical’ inspections by the Care Quality Commission.

The Bethnal Green health centre in Florida Street and Bow’s Tredegar surgery in Saxon Road, both under the Tower Hamlets commissioning group, have been rated as ‘good’ this week by inspectors.

They were among 80 surgeries examined in the latest round of inspections up and down the country to see whether practices are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.

“We still see evidence of too much poor care,” GP chief inspector Prof Steve Field warned.

“We’ve found 200 practices to be inadequate since we began inspections in 2014, which is half-a-million patients not getting the basic care from their GP practices.”

His inspectors in the latest round rated 54 as ‘good’, including the two East End practices, and four outstanding—but 17 requiring improvement and two listed as inadequate.
