EAST Londoners are rushing to emigrate Down Under as they flee the UK’s uncertain economy.

Specialist company The Emigration Group says almost a tenth of enquiries in the last year have come from the London area.

Cities like Manchester and Birmingham continue to have healthy interest but they take up just a fraction of the people looking to leave the UK.

Paul Arthur, director of the firm, said: “Demand from Londoners looking to emigrate has rocketed in the last year, particularly from South and East London. These areas represent around two thirds of all London emigration enquiries.”

Skilled UK residents who have struggled to find job opportunities at home are fuelling a boom year for emigration in 2011.

“Australia and New Zealand have remained firm favourites with Brits looking to emigrate,” added Mr Arthur.

“Both countries have sustained little affect from the global recession and they have been very successful at growing their economies. The countries are now booming and as a result have huge labour shortages which they are looking to fill with skilled migrant workers.”

Occupations in demand Down Under include everything from teachers, nurses and dentists to plumbers, electricians and engineers.
