Fire crews called in to free someone reported trapped in a restaurant toilet in London’s East End found the person dead.

They were called by police to the KFC takeaway in Bethnal Green Road, next to Weaversfield Park, to force open the door to the women’s loo on Saturday afternoon — and found him slumped against the door.

An ambulance crew was unable to revive the man, said to be in his 20s, who was declared dead at the scene, the London Ambulance Service confirmed today.

No formal identification has yet been made, although the Coroner’s Office at Poplar believes he lived in the area. Police have traced the man’s family to west London.
