America’s famous Trojan Marching Band quick-stepped through Canary Wharf performing their rally cries to a delighted crowd of 200 spectators.
Many American workers in the financial district who knew the band from “back home” cheered on the cheerleaders in Canada Square Park last Thursday.
The 80-strong band of musicians and cheerleaders from the University of Southern California performed traditional college songs and popular numbers adapted for a big band.
They have appeared in the opening ceremonies of the 1932, 1984 and 1996 Olympics and the 2002 Winter Games.
The visit to London was the first since the band was set up in 1918, having performed for five US presidents, played with Michael Jackson, Diana Ross and George Clinton and featured on a video with Fleetwood Mac—it had never made it to Britain until now.
