Vicious vampires and microscopic monsters are among the ‘nasties’ lined up to scare the kids of London’s East End this Hallowe’en.
They are part of an interactive trauma show along with deadly diseases that’s being staged at Whitechapel’s Centre of the Cell.
The show is being laid on by London University’s Queen Mary College at their education ‘pod’ inside the centre during the school half-term at the end of the month.
Halloween workshops running October 28-31 explore how vampire bats are able to suck your blood, how many teeth a werewolf has, how to spot disease-causing bacteria and viruses and how Dr Frankenstein could build a monster out of cells!
Centre of the Cell also hosts The Trauma Show on October 30 and November 1, an interactive science workshop pumped full of facts and demonstrations about blood, what happens to the body when too much blood is lost, and how lives can be saved after major injuries.
The show has been developed by Queen Mary’s Trauma research team led by Professor Karim Brohi in the Blizard Institute and at the Royal London Hospital, one of the busiest trauma centres in Europe.
The workshops also include a chance to take part in a show inside the cell-shaped ‘pod’ suspended over the laboratories of the Blizard Institute.
Once inside, youngsters learn about the amazing world of cells, the human body and latest medical research. They can try their hand at virtual experiments, heal extensive virtual burns, have their cells counted, study real body parts and diagnose cancer using high-power microscopes.
