The development of the teenage forward has not been helped by working under a succession of managers at Orient.

Omer Riza expressed his delight for Victor Adeboyejo after the forward scored his first professional goal for Leyton Orient on Monday against Hartlepool United.

The 19-year-old has been in and around the O’s squad for the past three seasons, but hasn’t earned many opportunities during that time.

But Adeboyejo has made nine appearances in 2017 and broke his duck in front of goal with a smart close-range finish on Monday.

Riza said: “I am delighted for Victor because he actually wanted to go and I had to sit him down and tell him I am in charge for however long I am, but I know the qualities that he has and all season I have told him that.

“I wanted to give him an opportunity, so he could grow in confidence and he has over the last two games. He has been a menace and made a big difference for us up top and hopefully he continues to do that.”

Adeboyejo was handed his debut at the age of 16 by Italian Fabio Liverani, but had to wait almost a whole year for his next O’s appearance.

The development of the forward has not been helped by working under a succession of managers at Orient.

Already this season he has played under four different bosses, but to his credit he has largely impressed when given a chance.

But despite Adeboyejo’s physicality and directness, which causes opposition defences all sorts of problems, until Monday he hadn’t scored.

Now he has got off the mark for O’s, it will be interesting to see how composed he is when his next scoring chance comes along.

“The problem with Victor is that he does all the hard work, but doesn’t get himself in the positions to score,” said Riza.

“He will come off the pitch sometimes having played very well, but having not scored and people judge strikers on that. I played up front, so I don’t totally judge my forwards on that, but a lot of other people do.

“I told Victor if we get the ball in wide areas then get into the area and he did that and scored and I have goosebumps thinking about it. I am telling them things and they are doing it and the club are getting rewarded for it.”

The celebrations after Adeboyejo’s goal told its own story. That moment has been a long time coming for the teen. He has had countless loan spells and done very well – scoring plenty of goals in the non-league scene.

But the question remained - could he do it for Orient? Right now he is showing he can and long may it continue regardless of what the next three games hold for the club.
