Boris Johnson visited Canary Wharf on Monday to announce his support for Conservative mayoral candidate Chris Wilford.

The Mayor of London met with 28-year-old Wilford, who hopes to unseat incumbent mayor Lutfur Rahman in the election on May 22, and with Cllr Peter Golds, the Conservative group leader in Tower Hamlets.

Mr Johnson also made a video in which he declared his endorsement, saying: “Hi folks, I’m Boris Johnson, I’m Mayor of London, and I’m backing Wilford for a fresh start as Mayor of Tower Hamlets.”

Mr Wilford, who lives in Bow, said: “It is great to have Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, backing my campaign.

“From cleaning up rubbish to making housing work, we need a long term plan to deliver a better deal for residents.

“It is time for a fresh start for Tower Hamlets.”
