A World Cup song created by an aspiring musician has notched up almost 18,000 views on YouTube in just over a week.
Football fan Joe McGairl, 30, wrote the lyrics for England’s Year with a couple of friends in the space of an afternoon.
The trio took on the stagename Muddy Boots for the track, which was made in Joe’s bedroom in Dellow Street, Shadwell.
Joe, a Chelsea fan, was inspired to pen his own track after being unimpressed with previous World Cup song efforts.
“The FA put out quite boring songs every few years which don’t tend to capture the mood of the nation,” he said. “I ended up having 15 people crammed in my room singing the England chants on a Sunday afternoon in late April which was quite mad.”
The video turned into a labour of love for Joe, vocalist Harleen Bahra and animator Nick Murray-Willis, who created it from start to finish in just six weeks - with no budget.
