View from the Assembly: Transport developments are important

PUBLISHED: 08:00 01 April 2018

London is moving east and it is important that our transport network and connectivity keep pace with the area's growth.

This month I was fortunate enough to visit the nearly-completed Elizabeth line station at Canary Wharf. I was excited to see the new station and to hear that the Elizabeth line is nearing completion as this will revolutionise travel across London. We in east London are particularly well-served as nine of the line’s 41 stations are in my constituency of City and East London.

At the last plenary meeting of the London Assembly I submitted three petitions to TfL about transport issues. The first about the recent changes to the 100 bus timetable, one on the need for traffic-calming measures around Stepney Green station, and a petition regarding the layout of the pedestrian crossings on Fairfield Road and Bow Road.

Finally, it was great to hear that Bromley-by-Bow has become the 73rd step-free access tube station on the Underground.
