With an election coming in May readers will hear lots of promises from politicians about what they can deliver. Being mayor means actually having to make those decisions.

It’s a tough job, with many demands and limited resources.

I’ve set out my budget for next year. I’m proposing a new £1.8m scheme to provide support and training to get local people into jobs in childcare, and to launch new WorkPath services to give young people careers and training advice, from a new centre in Watney Market.

I am also proposing a £1.4m new targeted approach to tackling Anti-Social Behaviour. This will hit street crime and gangs, but also the problems of drug-using and nuisance behaviour.

Services for all - protecting Ideas Stores and libraries, leisure centres, parks, improving refuse collection and street sweeping, will sit alongside continuing to stand up for those in need in the borough.
