Tower Hamlets is home to approximately 3,500 adults who depend on adult social care and homecare services that have been offered free of charge for years.
However, despite the chancellor’s Spring Budget delivering an additional £2 billion for adult social care over the period 2017/18 to 2019/20, mayor Biggs and his administration have decided to charge for these services, which will have a devastating effect on Tower Hamlets’ most vulnerable. It will drive them deeper into poverty and deprivation leaving them feeling isolated.
A family with a disabled adult child were charged over £40.00 a week until I intervened to have this re-assessed, the charge was halved. I’m still intervening because this family will still be out of pocket due to the needs of their disabled adult child.
Tower Hamlets has never charged our disabled, the elderly and vulnerable people for the care they need, I will continue to campaign against these charges.
