Mum says Overland was a lifeline for her son but Mayor Biggs wants to close it.

“…there are no plans to close any nurseries in the borough. In fact, unlike other councils, we are trying to keep our nurseries open…”

This is what Mayor John Biggs said in September 2017. Nine months later the executive mayor has announced he’ll cut 102 nursery places ‘to make childcare provision fairer for all families.’ How is it fair to close down John Smith, Mary Sambrook and Overland day nurseries?

Another of the mayor’s election manifesto promises was to support access to Overland’s specialist hearing unit. One mum has described how Overland was a lifeline for her and her little boy, with language therapists helping her son to develop his speech skills, he is now thriving.

Vulnerable children are suffering. Biggs has promised another ‘public consultation’ – our community must use this to fight back against this injustice.
