I am delighted that John Biggs has been re-elected as mayor of Tower Hamlets along with 42 Labour councillors.

Over the last three years, John has worked hard to ensure that our borough’s local services are protected and to turn the page from the Tower Hamlets First administration. I look forward to continuing to work together on key issues, such as housing and preventing anti-social behaviour and crime.

The tragedy of Grenfell last June has shone a light on housing issues across the country. After continued campaigning on the Labour side, the government have finally agreed to put £400 million towards tower blocks that need re-cladding. The government’s Hackett review has not proposed a ban on the use of combustible material for cladding, which is extremely disappointing. My priority is the safety of residents and I will continue to pressure the government to implement a complete ban on dangerous cladding.
