A vile letter to mark Tuesday, April 3 as ‘Punish a Muslim Day’ - an act of hatred aimed to target Muslims and to deliberately divide communities - was recently circulated which created some unease and concerns among residents.

We took up the issue with the police and the council to ensure safety and reassurance.

Tower Hamlets responded in a typical manner by sending out a strong message that we are united and will stand together against all forms of fascism and bigotry.

Together, with a diverse set of residents, I was proud to attend the Happier Together event at the East London Mosque and another event in St Dunstan’s to send a clear message that we will continue to stand for one another and aspire to come together with hope and solidarity in the face of division and hatred.

Together we can.
