Anti-social behaviour is a major concern in many communities across London. I have heard from residents about the impact that noise, drug use, and other disruptive activities have on their quality of life.
My colleagues and I on the London Assembly Police and Crime Committee have looked at this issue in detail and we published a report – Respecting Others: Tackling Anti-social Behaviour in London - at the end of January, which you can read in full on London.gov.uk.
We visited some of the hotspots in Tower Hamlets with officers from Bethnal Green Police Station as part of our investigation.
Tower Hamlets Council, working in partnership with local police, deserve praise for the way they are tackling this issue. The council have recruited 39 police officers whose role will be to focus on addressing anti-social behaviour.
In our report, we highlighted some of these examples of best practice but we have also made recommendations to the mayor as to what more could be done to address this problem.
