A MAN has been jailed for beating his terminally ill girlfriend during an argument in their home.

George Noel, 47, was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison at Tower Hamlets' new specialist domestic violence court in a hearing last Thursday.

The Frenchman, of Westferry Road on the Isle of Dogs, attacked his partner, who is suffering a terminal illness, following an argument, punching her in the face with such force that she fell backwards, hurting her back on the bath.

Noel then repeatedly punched her in the face before locking her in the bedroom.

He was arrested after the attack on June 16 and charged with assault against the woman, who does not want to be identified.

He was found guilty of assault at the new specialist domestic violence court at Thames Magistrates' Court on Thursday last week and was handed the five-month sentence, along with a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting his victim for life.

Anyone suffering domestic violence should call 999 in an emergency or contact Tower Hamlets Domestic Violence Team on 0800 279 5434 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
