THE FLYING ban after the volcanic eruption in Iceland has kept 180 Tower Hamlets teachers and school staff away stranded in foreign climes.

Their absence has affected a quarter of the schools but gaps have been filled by agency staff and none of the schools has had to close.

There are 5,000 people working in East End schools and four per cent of them have been unable to make it back for the start of the summer term.
