Volunteering organisations in Tower Hamlets are being strengthened thanks to a funding boost from the council.
A Community Commissioning Programme, beginning in April 2019, will secure funding for voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations through commissioned services.
Another policy will be introduced which will provide funding through grants, and the legislation which gives VCS organisations access to council buildings is also being extended.
Will Tuckley, chief executive of Tower Hamlets Council, said: “I’m impressed by the huge commitment and dedication given by community and voluntary groups of all sizes across the borough. Recognising the crucial role many of our groups play in supporting residents to live better lives, we’ve been able to respond by introducing additional support, greater certainty, and in some cases extra rent reduction to more local organisations.”
The Council has already opened the Christian Street Community Hub in Whitechapel, prioritised for use by VCS groups, with plans for three more by 2019.
