TWO teenage thugs found guilty of killing waiter Syed Islam outside his restaurant in London’s East End have been jailed at the Old Bailey today for 12 years each.

Syed, who was working part-time to get through college, was battered on the head when he tried to stop a fight outside the Maida restaurant in Bethnal Green in January.

Mohammed Shaubuzzaman and Bahar Uddin, both 19, were found guilty on July 17 of his manslaughter and were back in the dock for sentencing today.

The pair were also sentenced to six years for assault on others during the incident, all sentences to run together.

EXCESSIVE VIOLENCE

Det Chief Ins Carl Mehta said after today’s sentencing: “A small and insignificant argument resulted in the use of excessive violence.

“Weapons were used by these two to resolve their differences with another group of youngsters who were simply enjoying an evening meal.”

Police were called to a disturbance at the restaurant in Bethnal Green Road at 8.15pm on January 15 involving 20 people.

Syed received a blow to the head and died later at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. He was from Pakistan studying IT in London.
