THE Town Hall has shown the red card’ to 16 people it has signed up to be referees—but only to show how you tackle players who won’t play ball.’

A nine-week training course run by Tower Hamlets council in East London has kicked off with the first session this week when the cabinet member who looks after cultural issues, Rofique Ahmed (pictured), showed them just how you go about booking a player who fouls up and doesn’t go by the rules.

The wannabe refs will be able to referee non-league matches once they complete the course with a Football Association referees’ certificate, all paid for by the Tower Hamlets Sports Council with a small contribution by those taking part.
