ADVERTS have been placed to recruit one of the Town Hall's biggest 'fat cats' on a basic salary of £118,000 a year.

Tower Hamlets council in London's deprived East End is looking for a new assistant chief executive after Sara Williams' departure of last month.

The council says in its advert that "if you have the breadth of experience to take on this challenging multifaceted role, the benefits are substantial."

It states: "Your efforts to make a lasting difference to people's lives throughout Tower Hamlets will be valued and well rewarded."

Headhunters Saxton Bampfylde, led by former Church of England Archbishops' Council member Stephen Bampfylde, have been appointed to recruit for the position.

Meanwhile, the Town Hall is also recruiting a full-time political adviser to the ruling Labour group on a £32,100 salary.

The position has become vacant after the resignation of Chris Weavers, who has decided to pursue 'other career opportunities'.
