CAMPAIGNERS who want to set up a town council in Wapping are holding a public meeting tonight.
Spokesman Geoff Juden said: "This is the pivotal moment when the people of Wapping can agree to go forward with their own form of local accountability and make their own decisions."
It's the first time since local government changes in the 1960s that anywhere in London has applied to run a town council.
They need signatures of ten per cent of the population in the Wapping and St Katharine's wards fro the town council to get the go-ahead and activists are already busy collecting the necessary 2,500 signatures for a petition.
The event starts at 7pm at Raine Street Hall in Raine Street.
