WORKERS at an East End liquor store are to lose their jobs under plans to close hundreds of Thresher and Wine Rack chains across the country.

Wine Rack in Garnet Street, Wapping is due to be closed by December 16 after administrators to its owner First Quench announced that 381 stores will be shut across its brand.

The move will affect six workers at the store in Wapping but there will be 1,908 redundancies across the country.

This follows the announcement earlier this month 373 loss-making stores were to close following KPMG's initial review of the business.

First Quench, which also owns Bottoms Up, Haddows, a Scottish chain, and The Local, went into administration on October 29, after being hit by cut-price supermarket competition.

Stocks of wines and spirits are being sold off at a discount from November 24 at the store in Wapping.
