A visual artist is using photography to raise awareness of poverty in Zambia.

Photographic arts graduate Tina Remiz is working with aid organisation War on Want to document the struggles experienced by those living in the African country, many of whom survive on just £1 per day.

The charity is planning to use her material in campaigns urging government ministers at home and abroad to do more to help people in the developing world.

Tina, of Maltings Close, Bromley-by-Bow, said: “I am not only excited about this commission, but feel lucky for a chance to do a story on a subject which is both important and under-represented in the media.”

The 24-year-old fought off competition for the project by showing off a portfolio of work documenting the poverty she was confronted with on a return trip to her native Latvia.
