Protesters intend holding a disco in the road to blockade traffic on Tower Bridge tonight over London’s air pollution.
The demo by members of the ‘Stop Killing Londoners’ campaign group is being staged ahead of tomorrow’s deadline for the GLA consultation on pollution.
The group has blocked Tower Bridge before, having brought traffic to a gridlock in October which stretched back to Tower Hill and Aldgate.
Seven protesters were arrested after police waited an hour before moving in to clear the roadway. Stop Killing Londoners also forced another traffic blockade last month.
“We intend sending a clear message,” one protest organiser said. “Londoners need urgent action on air pollution.”
Today’s action within site of City Hall also follows protests at the weekend by other groups like the London Clean Air Coalition, which held a banner-and-flowers ‘party’ in Trafalgar Square on Saturday, and London Assembly member Caroline Russell helping stage a demo in Brixton.
The GLA’s air pollution consultation closes tomorrow.
