Hammers keen on bringing hero striker back to Upton Park on loan

West Ham will wait for the result of Manchester City’s inquiry into rebel striker Carlos Tevez’s alleged behaviour before making any official move to sign the Hammers legend on loan.

The Argentina international spoke to City officials on Monday to put across his side of the story as to what happened last week in the club’s game against Bayern Munich.

With City 2-0 down in the second half at the Allianz Arena, it is alleged that Tevez refused to come off the bench when asked to by boss Roberto Mancini.

Since his meeting with the club, Tevez has flown back to his homeland, while City decide on their verdict, which is due to be announced towards the end of this week.

It is expected that City will ban the striker from playing for the club again, which would open up a possibility of Tevez being loaned to another team until January, when the transfer window opens.

With Premier League rules preventing the striker from being loaned to another top-flight club outside of the transfer window, the Hammers would be extremely keen to bring back a player who almost single-handedly saved them from relegation in the 2006-07 season.

West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady, in her weekly newspaper column, confirmed that the club had spoken to City.

“First job today is to ring Man City to ask if we can borrow Carlos Tevez for the rest of the season,” she revealed.

“The answer is unprintable. The Argentinian is easily West Ham’s most expensive player — he’s cost us 34.3million in fines, fees and wages!”

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is also believed to be keen on any potential deal, as he revealed when questioned about signing the 27-year-old Argentinian.

“I think what might need to be thought about is to wait and see how the situation is resolved and then if he or the club feels a loan situation might be the right idea, we would love to be in the frame,” he said.

“Why wouldn’t you want a top-class player? I’ve worked with some top class players in my time, some world class players who will win you games when you least expect it.”
