DISABLED youngsters from London’s East End are being shortlisted for selections to possibly represent Britain in the 2012 Paralympics.

The selection run went under starter’s orders when Tower Hamlets, one of the five Olympics host’ boroughs, invited 80 youngsters to Mile End leisure centre last week to discover their potential.

Talent scouts from four national governing organisations in sport were at the preliminaries to spot potential champs for the 2012 and 2016 world Paralympics in table tennis, wheelchair basketball, athletics and football. They shortlisted 20 to compete in the next stage of the selection process as part of the Federation of Disability Sports Playground to Podium’ scheme.
