Steve Davis currently has four loan players in his first-team squad while two of O’s youngsters are on loan at non-league clubs
Leyton Orient have been busy in the loan market this season with several players moving to Brisbane Road on a temporary basis and some leaving.
The first loan deal to be completed by director of football Martin Ling saw the ex-O’s boss raid his old club Cambridge United.
Orient signed U’s fans favourite Josh Coulson on a six-month loan deal all the way back on July 28.
With Coulson seemingly part of the furniture now at E10, it is easy to forget he isn’t actually O’s player.
His loan is set to run until Sunday January 28 meaning he’ll be eligible to play against Aldershot Town on January 27.
Judging the way Coulson has settled in at Orient, you wouldn’t bet against his loan move being made permanent.
Tristan Abrahams was the next player to join O’s on loan, though this deal occurred straight after he left the National League club to sign for Norwich City on July 31.
After a month without forcing his way into Steve Davis’ first-team, the talented teen quickly returned to the Canaries and in the process brought his time with Orient to an end.
Ling used the loan market again in September and he raided another of his old clubs by bringing in James Brophy.
The versatile left-footer signed a three-month deal on September 21 and made his debut two days later in the 2-2 draw at Aldershot.
Brophy’s spell at Brisbane Road is set to end on December 21 – meaning he’ll leave ahead of a busy festive spell.
Mark Ellis moved to Orient at the end of that same month – September 28 – and signed a two-month loan from Carlisle United.
The former Crewe Alexandra and Torquay United centre back was brought in to help cover the void left by Coulson and George Elokobi.
Ellis debuted in the disappointing 2-1 loss at home to AFC Fylde on September 30, but has largely been a regular since.
With his deal only two months long, the defender is set to return to the Cumbrians at the end of this month on November 28.
Potentially Ellis’ final game for Orient could be up against his old club Torquay on November 25.
Both Ellis and Brophy were unable to represent O’s in the FA Cup, which shows they likely still have futures with their parent clubs Carlisle and Swindon.
The most recent loanee at E10 is Zain Westbrooke, who joined on October 11 on a 93-day deal.
He made his debut away to Dagenham & Redbridge in the FA Cup days later and made his first start last weekend in the 2-2 draw at Wrexham.
Westbrooke, the Brentford B captain, is set to remain part of the Orient squad until January 11.
O’s also have some players on loan at other non-league clubs with Freddy Moncur joining Bishop’s Stortford on a one-month loan on October 6.
His deal with the Hertfordshire club is set to end on Monday November 6 – meaning talks over his future will take place shortly at Brisbane Road.
Rian McLean is out on loan as well and with Hendon, having joined them on October 23, but he departed Orient on a work experience loan meaning it is assessed on a week by week basis.
One player not returning to E10 is Sam Alderson after he left in September. The ex-O’s trainee has since permanently signed for Kingstonian.
