HIGH winds caused a danger’ alert in East London during the night when corrugated roofing was blown lose on the top of a three-storey block of flats.

A fire-crew arrived at the block at Ensign Road in Poplar at 10pm to find new tin roofing recently installed was flapping dangerously lose after being caught by a gust of wind. But there was no serious damage.

An emergency team of engineers from Tower Hamlets council had to be called in to secure the roofing—they were reported to be “exceptionally busy” during the evening.

The East End’s six fire stations at Poplar, Bethnal Green, Bow, Millwall, Shadwell and Whitechapel were on high wind’ alert from the London Meteorological Office.
