Witness appeal as woman, 60, dies following road accident

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a road accident after a woman died in hospital today (Tuesday). The 60-year-old was hit by a light goods lorry on a pedestrian crossing outside Starbucks coffee bar in Islington’s busy Upper Street at mid-day. She died at the Royal London in Whitechapel 90 minutes later

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a road accident after a woman died at the Royal London Hospital in East London today (Tuesday).

The 60-year-old was injured by a light goods lorry on a crossing outside Starbucks coffee bar in Islington's busy Upper Street at mid-day. She died at the hospital in Whitechapel 90 minutes later.

Traffic investigators believe they know who the woman was, but are waiting for formal identification from next of kin.

The lorry driver stopped at the scene. He was not arrested.

Meanwhile, the Met's Collision Investigation office is urging anyone who witnessed the accident at 12 noon in Upper Street or anyone with information to call 020-7388 6806.
