A two-year-old toddler is fighting for his life today after being air-lifted 10 miles to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel following a road accident.
Police are appealing for witnesses after both the child and his grandfather were injured last night in north London.
The child’s condition is described as life-threatening, but his 59-year-old grandfather’s condition is non-life threatening, police confirmed today. Next of kin are aware.
The two were walking when they were involved in an incident with a car on the main Kenton Road, at the corner of Claremont Avenue in Kenton, two miles north of Wembley, at 7.40pm.
They were treated at the scene by London Ambulance paramedics before being rushed to the hospital in east London where they have been detained.
The 22-year-old motorist involved was arrested at the scene “on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving”, Scotland Yard said. He was taken to a police station and bailed to return in October.
Investigators are appealing for witnesses who were in Kenton Road at around 7.40pm last night, or anyone with information, to contact the Met’s Serious Collision Unit on 020-8991 9555, or police non-emergency on 101.
