A woman rider was injured when her motorbike was in a collision with a car at traffic lights outside Whitechapel fire-station in east London last night.

Firefighters who were first on the scene gave her first aid including a neck collar and gave her oxygen before ambulance paramedics arrived, following the crash on the A13 Commercial Road at the junction with Whitechurch Lane.

The 27-year-old was taken by ambulance to the Royal London Hospital nearby with a leg injury, where she was detained overnight. She had been heading eastward along Commercial Road towards Limehouse when the accident happened.

The fire crew later wheeled her wrecked motorbike back to the fire-station for safe-keeping. The driver of the Lotus Elite involved in the collision was unhurt, but his damaged car had to be removed. Police cordoned off part of the eastbound carriageway for nearly an hour while the accident was cleared.
