The world record-holding snack was created at Whitechapel’s East London Mosque by volunteers from Muslim Aid before being given to homeless people living in the area.

The challenge, which comfortably beat the previous 110.8kg record held by Bradford College, took place ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, known as the festival of sacrifice, which begins on Friday, September 1.

Zac Hussain, director of communities and business development at the charity, said: “We wanted to make a larger-than-ever version of this popular food to demonstrate visually how people of the Muslim faith work tirelessly throughout the year doing charitable acts to support the unfortunate in the community around them and further afield.”

The samosa, which was divided into around 200 portions, was served with a chickpea curry to those in nearby homelss hostels.
