Churchgoers are planning a “church crawl” tour of London’s East End taking them on an eight-mile trek to eight houses of workship to raise funds for Christian Aid Week.
They are dropping in at Methodist and Anglican churches and two missions as part of next month’s 10k sponsored walk.
“I am hoping this walk will bring together people from various congregations to raise money to much-needed work,” the Rev Cameron Kirkwood from Bow Road Methodists said. “People can complete the whole walk or just one or more stages, depending on their mobility and commitments.”
Christian Aid is holding displays at each stopping-off point, focussing on its aid and development work.
The May 9 route starts at the Whitechapel Mission, goes on to Bethnal Green and Bow Road Methodist churches, calling at St Paul’s Old Ford, St Mary’s-at-Bow and St Paul’s Bow Common Anglican churches, before finishing at Poplar Methodist church and nearby Queen Victoria Seamen’s Mission.
