THE kids couldn’t Adam and Eve it’ when Boris Johnson turned up to open their new city’ park this morning.

The Mayor opened the small patch of green amid the tower office blocks in the heart of London’s East End on the site of the former Gardner’s Corner traffic system between Aldgate and Whitechapel.

“Ever since Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden, people have been yearning for green spaces in their cities,” he said. “This is an important part of the 2012 Highway’ to the Olympic site at Stratford.”

Boris turned up for the inauguration of the new Braham Street Park, just off Whitechapel High Street which forms part of the “2012 Olympic Highway” from the City to out to Stratford, otherwise known as the A11 Whitechapel Road and Mile End Road.

The 2012 Highway’ is getting a makeover with several historic buildings along the way being revamped. Streets, roads and green spaces are being improved in the run up to the Games.

He added: “I told the children this park has the longest bench I’ve ever seen.

“You could fit all the members of the Liberal Democrats on it, or all the deputy mayors who’ve worked for me.”

But today was really reserved for the kids, with 500 pupils from Tower Hamlets schools arriving for the celebrations. Two days of family fun activities are also planned at Braham Park tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday.
