The 23-year-old was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of murder and was questioned at an east London police station, then bailed to return late next month.

It follows an earlier arrest last Thursday of a 31-year-old on suspicion of murder, also given police bail.

Luther Earl Edwards was knifed in the chest after a Friday night out with friends at the Bethnal Green boxing venue on July 29.

He staggered across the road to a BP petrol station in Cambridge Heath Road and collapsed.

Paramedics arriving at the forecourt battled in vain to save him—Luther died at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel an hour later. A post-mortem at Poplar gave cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.

The 31-year-old from Clapham in south London had got involved in a brawl which started inside York Hall and spilled out onto the streets, Scotland Yard confirmed. The stabbing was less than 500 yards from Bethnal Green police station.

Detectives from the Met’s Homicide Command are keeping an open mind on any motive.

They are appealing for witnesses in York Hall or outside in Old Ford Road and Cambridge Heath Road at 10.30pm on July 29, or anyone with information, to call the incident room on 020-8345 3715, or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800-555111, email: Crimestoppers-uk.org
