A group of young people from Tower Hamlets were treated to a day at the races as part of a new community project to promote the sport industry as a career.
The group met retired champion jockey Hayley Turner and were given a tour of Lingfield Park in Surrey, at the launch of #TakeTheReins programme with charity partners Active Communities Network (ACN).
ACN is working with Lingfield Park to offer young people work experience and employability courses which could lead to a career in the sport industry.
Gary Stannett, CEO of ACN, said: “This partnership will give young people who would previously not have considered the racing industry as a pathway an opportunity to understand and see first-hand the opportunities available whether in animal care, grounds keeping or catering.”
Andrew Perkins, executive director of Lingfield Park, added: “Hopefully we have given the young people a glimpse of just some of the opportunities open to them.”
