A woman who operated the results board at the basketball finals during this summer’s Olympics has been nominated for a Volunteer of the Year award.

Craigie-Lee Paterson, from East India Docks, is up for the award given to the volunteer, aged over 25, deemed to have made the greatest contribution to the 2012 Balfour Beatty London Youth Games.

She is among volunteers from ten London boroughs who have been shortlisted for an awards ceremony to take place at Lord’s Cricket Ground next month.

A spokesman for the awards said: “She committed to ten days of volunteering throughout the year working on results, events, and media. She is a superb ambassador for the organisation. “She took her first step into basketball officiating through the London Youth Games in 2010 and at London 2012 she operated the results board at the Olympic basketball finals, and was also the team attach for China’s wheelchair basketball team.”

The awards ceremony will be hosted by three-times Olympic javelin medallist Steve Backley.
