Boundary review changes consultation period extended

PUBLISHED: 16:27 07 September 2012

The consultation period in which residents can have their say on changes to electoral boundaries has been extended.

Having been scheduled to stop at the end of August, the consultation is now due to continue running until Tuesday, September 11, giving people the chance to have their say on proposed changes to wards used for electing councillors to represent them at local level.

The review is being carried out by the Local Government Boundary Commission, which recommended in June that the number of councillors in the borough should be reduced from 51 to 45.

Max Caller, who chairs the Commission, explained: “We want people to tell us which areas in Tower Hamlets would fit well together in new wards and where the boundaries between wards should be drawn.

“We have extended the deadline for the consultation because we’ve received further information from local councillors about future projections for the number of electors in each part of the borough and we’ve published that information on our website.”

Residents can submit their views on the issue by emailing, or writing to: The Review Officer (Tower Hamlets), Layden House, 76-86 Turnmill Street, London, EC1M 5LG.
