Latest results and highlights from indoor cricket tournament taking place at University of East London’s SportsDock
NewVic College defeated George Monoux College comprehensively and Leyton Sixth Form College edged past Waltham Forest College in week five of the Essex Cricket FE Chance to Shine indoor tournament.
George Monoux were put into bat first by NewVic and it would prove a wise decision with Atesaam Syed making the break through in his first over.
Syed Ali helped George Monoux regroup with 14 off eight balls before he was run-out by Bakhtar Khan.
Hamza Shakeel was going along nicely before he was out after obstructing the field for 29 off 19 balls.
George Monoux were dismissed for 96 with one ball of their innings remaining at University of East London’s SportsDock.
NewVic’s openers made an excellent start with Muhammad Rahim top scoring with 27 off 13 before retiring.
Nas Ahmed continued where he left off and finished unbeaten on 24 off 15 to see his team home in the eighth over for a 10-wicket success.
A much tighter game occurred between Leyton and Waltham Forest with the latter batting first.
Sadiq Kamal (25) and Imran Ahmad (26) ensured Forest made a brilliant start before both had to retire.
After their departure, the rest of the batting line-up struggling to keep the scoreboard ticking over and they eventually reached 98-2 from their 10 overs.
Hamzah Wajid got Leyton off to a flying start with 15 off just six balls before he was run-out.
Fareed Hussain carried on where he left off and blasted his way to 29 off 14 balls with one six and a four.
Bilal Imran wasn’t far behind with 22 off 13 and it ensured Leyton got over the line despite Watham Forest’s wicket-keeper Rizwan Khan ditching the gloves and claiming 1-15 off his two overs after an earlier run-out.
