Old Streetonians maintained their solid recent form as they squeezed to a two-point victory over Old Ashmoleans at the weekend.

The class of the backs was in evidence as they created space for Downey to glide towards the line, but a slightly lackadaisical attitude saw him held up over the line.

The first score came soon after though, this time some fast recycling from the pack gave space again for Downey to go over in the left corner, fed well by Georganas, impressing in his first game back from a recent knee injury.

With some traded missed penalties, Street led only 5-3 at half time, but missed opportunities continued in the second half, as Street blew chance after chance to make the game safe.

However, with 20 minutes remaining, Perry finally latched on to a turnover created from the aggressive defence of Atkinson, and raced away to score from 50 metres out.

With the final period approaching, Street went to sleep at the line-out, and allowed the Old A's scrum- half to slip through from the 22m line and go in under the posts, making it a two point game with 10 minutes to go.

Some desperate defence followed, interspersed with some chances for the home side too.

Several phases later, Ashmoleans had a penalty wide out on the left, within kickable distance, to steal the game. It would have been against the balance of play, but reward for their battling spirit.

But Street escaped again, and as the kick fell short, Georganas had the honour of kicking it out of play to secure the two points.

The win sees Street extend their lead at the top of the table, as rivals West London lost a close encounter with Hitchin on Saturday.

Street, having secured promotion, can now secure the league title with a win against Old Hamptonians this Saturday.
