Sporting Bengal United ensured a great escape from relegation on the last day of the Essex Senior League season.

They fell behind against Woodford Town at Mile End Stadium, but Noah Adejokun levelled in first-half stoppage time.

And Mohammed Ahmed's goal on the hour mark secured a 2-1 victory which left them one point above the drop zone.

Frenford, who beat West Essex 2-0, and Athletic Newham, who drew 2-2 at White Ensign, are both relegated.

Soul Tower Hamlets finished as runners-up having ended their regular campaign with a 4-2 win at Halstead Town.

Shomari Barnwell gave them a 10th-minute lead, with Michael Agboola doubling the advantage midway through the first half.

The home side halved the deficit before half-time, but Samir Bihmoutine made it 3-1 on 49 minutes.

Hamlets saw Kieran James sent off on the hour mark but Steve Carvell netted a fourth goal before the home side grabbed a consolation.

It meant a home play-off semi-final against Barking on Tuesday and, if successful, Hamlets will host Great Wakering or Buckhurst Hill in the final on Saturday.
