Archant London sports reporter and former London Raiders forward Jacob Ranson is guesting for Algerian side HC Alger Corsaires at the 2018 Arab Cup in Abu Dhabi and writing a blog about the experience.

Day 4:

Another loss for the Algeries Corsaires as we suffered a 9-4 defeat to Abu Dhabi Storm.

The hosts were bolstered by additions of five to six Russians, some with KHL experience, so it was always going to be a tough task.

We managed to frustrate them in the first period as it finished 2-2.

The start of the second was also strong from us, but we then gave them too much time and space – and they used it wisely to grab a few quick goals before eventually running out winners.

It was a way better performance from us than the first night, though, and I’m sure we’ll be looking to build on that.

Before the match I spent the day at Saadlyat Beach, a beautiful white sand beach at the top of Abu Dhabi, just a short cab drive away.

I put my music on and zoned out the world as I read my book about former NHLer Derek Boogaard.

After a few hours on the beach I decided to take a dip in the sea before resuming my book. Then it was off to an early night to prepare for the match.

Once the game was done we were dropped back at the hotel and handed some food to take up to our rooms before having some free time.

Today we have a day off so I will be using the day to explore.
