Archant London sports reporter and former London Raiders forward Jacob Ranson is guesting for Algerian side HC Alger Corsaires at the 2018 Arab Cup in Abu Dhabi and writing a blog about the experience.

I’m sad to say the game against Egypt Pharoahs ended in another loss for Algeries Corsaires – but we were so close this time round.

It was a game we should have probably won but we found ourselves the wrong side of an 8-7 scoreline.

We kept clawing our way back into the game and at 6-6 I thought the game was ours. But too many penalties and sloppy plays cost us in the match.

On a bright note I got my first points for the club as I scored two and got two assists, but that means nothing without a win.

Now we have to move on to our final game against Tunisia.

Before the match I paid a visit to the Etihad Towers and downtown Abu Dhabi for a walk about, before finding a beach on my travels and stopping for a quick dip.

Soon it was time to get back for a team lunch and have a quick rest before heading to the rink.

After our match I watched the first two periods of Lebanon against Tunisia to size up our next opponents.

It looked a good game but Lebanon look by far the team of the tournament to me so far.

Two periods was enough to see Lebanon running away with the match (they won 10-3, so it was time to get on the bus and go back for a team dinner.

It was then onto a rooftop bar called 12 at 12 that looked out over the city and the leaning tower, which leans four times as much as tower of Pisa, before heading back to bed.
